Oceanites is a non-profit environmental, scientific and educational organization founded by Ron Naveen in 1987 that sees global climate through an Antarctic lens.

Oceanites provides science-based data showing a strong correlation between the Antarctic Peninsula’s warming trend and declining numbers of the Adélie and chinstrap penguins.

These penguins truly are “canaries in the climate change coal mine” and Oceanites is uniquely positioned to positively shape conservation of these indisputably beguiling animals as well as public awareness nationally and internationally of climate change and its impacts.

Since 1994, Ron, the world's foremost "Penguin Counter," and his Oceanites team of field biologists have been traveling to the vast Antarctic Peninsula region (where it’s warming faster than anywhere else on Earth except the Arctic)  “counting penguins” and studying the effects of climate change.
