In November 2018, our daughter Ellie received a diagnosis of Stage 4 Neuroblastoma, an uncommon and highly lethal form of pediatric cancer. Not too long ago, the survival rate for this condition stood at a mere 5%. Our family and friends, along with our community and the compassionate healthcare team at Lurie Children's Hospital, enveloped us in love, support, and advanced medical care that proved pivotal in restoring Ellie's well-being. Despite the severity of her condition, Ellie's response to treatment has been robust, and even three years post-treatment, there is no sign of disease recurrence.
However, the reality remains that many other children are not as fortunate. The five-year survival rate for children who experience a relapse either during or after treatment is only 20%. Our determination is unwavering as we strive to alter these odds for the better. Our mission includes both enhancing survival rates and offering a lifeline to families who grapple with the harrowing ordeal of a pediatric cancer diagnosis.
