Welcome to Hemp Communities - Where healing of the earth and the soul happens in an intentional community. The “intentional” is for those who choose to live alternatively to the traditional structure. We contribute to the well-being of our residents and members by allowing them to heal from societal traumas and healthcare issues, as well as contribute in a manner that permits mutual benefit between person (resident & members) and community. In other words, you give your best be it in skill, education, or product - but always giving your best.
Kim McCarthy, founding partner of The Pipeline: Strategies, is guiding us through the process of creating a people strategy specific to each Hemp Communities’ needs.
The design of our intentional community will have independent living structures - small hemp homes - encircling the Hearth & Garden which houses the family/entertainment room, business center, main kitchen, and solar greenhouse. A healing studio is also planned, allowing for group and private practice.
We welcome members who cannot contribute to their fullest capacities or are dependent on others, believing a community supports the health and safety of each member to benefit the highest quality of life for each member. While we commit to providing an enriching environment for seniors/elderly, the handicapped, and the disabled (or otherwise disadvantaged), we'd like to build upon this idea and incorporate a unique living program similar to Dementia Village, an intentional community in Holland that provides independence and normalcy for those living with dementia.
Additionally, by integrating younger member activities with older member participation, we further the health and well-being of our community. Research shows that intergenerational shared sites increase the health and well-being of both young and older participants, reduce social isolation, and create cost efficiencies. After reading the details of Dementia Village and the case study regarding intergenerational benefits, Kim is dedicated to incorporating similar programs into Hemp Communities.
Hemp farming and similar agricultural activities are included in the healing portion because hemp provides phytoremediation by default of growing. Yes, the simple act of growing hemp becomes a healing process for the soil and surrounding areas because the plant filters and absorbs toxins and heavy metals, making it an ideal crop to grow for many reasons. As we say, "Hemp remediates the soil. Hemp Communities remediates the soul."
The infrastructure is geared toward sustainability but that doesn't mean the community is without resources or modern conveniences. Having researched proven techniques and products for greatly decreasing the reliability of public utilities, Hemp Communities will serve as a model community intended to be established anywhere zoning allows. The ideal community size is 25 households, which allows for member voices to be heard instead of represented by an HOA board (or similar). Once capacity is met, additional Hemp Communities locations can be established, thereby strengthening individual communities by allowing for collaborative activities, tools, and resources.
