CMCA is a Christian-based residential Training Centre which offers a two year dipolma certification program for girls. Girls, whose families are not able to afford schooling costs beyond the Grade 6 level offered by government schools are offered training in a full-time basis (Monday - Friday) in a stay-in basis during which their classes include a variety of disciplines: cooking (both modern - indoor kitchen & outdoor / traditional - wood fired stove/oven), sewing - on treddle machines & power machines, women's health issues, English classes (written & verbal),Bible study, music training, physical fitness and computer training. The girl's return to their homes in surrounding towns and/or villages for the weekend period because family pressures to have the girls assist in the home. Our program is providing is providing educational possibilities for girls who would not enjoy this training opportunity due to poverty. The normal / cultural circumstances have a large number of girls only attending government paid schooling until mandatory Grade 6 - after which most are subjected to cultural pressures of domestic / marriage arrangements. Our program is government recognized and we have seen girls graduate from our program - and move onto higher educational opportunities because of our scholarship program and achieve. This spring we will see on of our first list participants graduate as a fully qualified teacher - an success which she only obtained because our support.
