Who We Are
Power Street Theatre is a Latina-founded, Philadelphia-based theatre organization rooted in the belief that accessible arts access is essential movement work. We are dedicated to art for social change by investing in creative thought leaders, multidisciplinary artists, and community voices through prioritizing representation, accessibility, education, arts advocacy, and joy.
Our Programs
Operating under the belief that everyone has a right to quality arts education, we prioritize preserving the stories of Philadelphians of the Global Majority and pride ourselves on offering a free or pay-what-you-decide ticketing model for our programs, adult creative workshops, and events, in partnership with deeply rooted neighborhood organizations and businesses.
We implement our mission through a wide range of unique and accessible programming, such as:
Land and Body Creative Courses for Adults Free arts education is a cornerstone of our work. We offer free arts education courses for adults in theatre, poetry, storytelling, comedy, bomba dance, and culinary arts. We offer skill-building, creative exploration, and professional development opportunities without cost as a barrier. We recognize the importance of creating an environment for adults of all skill levels to play, be vulnerable, and experiment in a welcoming community. “I grew so much as a writer and just as a creative person in general because of this class. I am so grateful for the training but also the community.” - Former Land and Body Student |

![]() | PlayTime New Play Reading Series PlayTime is Power Street Theatre's platform for new-work development — A reading and performance series that invests in the future of Philly theatre by creating space for multicultural writers, dramaturgs, directors, and actors to collaborate on the development of a new play. In 2025, we had our pilot reading of ‘The Machu Picchu Play’ by Peruvian playwright Tyler Rocio Ecoña and in Spring 2026 we developed and presented NeuroSpeak by Pratima Agrawal - a dark comedy about AI’s place in our world. Stay tuned for what’s next with PlayTime! “For the longest time, I always prefaced my artistic roles with the word 'aspiring' -- I was an 'aspiring' director or an 'aspiring' playwright or an 'aspiring' stand-up comic. Thanks to the opportunities I have been provided by PST… I no longer am just aspiring--I am a director, I am a playwright, and I am a stand-up comic. I am all of these things because I am and I owe this belief in myself in large part to PST, Erlina, Gabi, Jose, and the whole PST community.” - Gilberto Vega, Playtime Director

Souletri Souletri is our monthly open mic series that was born from a vision of fostering community connections and providing a safe haven for artists to express themselves freely. Souletri Sundays, hosted at Philadelphia’s first Black-owned brewery, Two Locals Brewing Co. invites poets, musicians, comedians, storytellers, and creatives of all kinds to share their work in front of a live, supportive audience. With Souletri we believe, every voice deserves a stage. Every story deserves to be heard. “Souletri is an organization that has been curated upon the principles of authenticity, enlightenment and genuine love! Every artist that has become apart adds a new, unique flavor to our melting pot of a community that isn’t experienced too often in the city of Philadelphia…” - RyAnn V Bryant, Souletri Host

How Funds Will Be Used
Donations will be allocated to programming costs and administrative overhead, filling the gaps our organization needs to stay sustainable. This is especially important for fiscally sponsored organizations like ours as general operating funding is hard to come by.
With your support we can ensure our creative teams, teaching artists, and program administrators are adequately paid for their time and expertise, while we continuously bring high-quality free arts programming and education to our Philadelphia community.
Here are some examples of where your dollars will go!
$5 / month - Helps pays for one featured artist at Souletri Sundays
$25 / month - Covers tuition for one Land and Body student
$50 / month - Pays for one PlayTime reading series performer
And remember, no gift is too large! :)
Why donate to Power Street Theatre?
Our almost 15 year history has shown us the impact of working in and with communities–it leads to healing, joy, lasting community connection, and transformational appreciation for the arts.
This is imperative in a time when immigrant and refugee communities across the United States are facing an escalating deportation epidemic and intensified criminalization. In times like these, cultural expression becomes not only creative practice, but a form of resistance, survival, and community protection. Our work creates space for people to tell their stories and build collective power through the arts.
Our staff, students, participants, and audiences are intergenerational, immigrants, artists, parents, caregivers, queer, community caretakers, people with disabilities, survivors, leaders, activists, and educators. Our community is one of innovation and resilience whose strengths shine through art, businesses, food, cultures, and stories. We are the community we serve. In a moment when so many of our neighbors are navigating fear, displacement, and instability, we see the arts as a vital tool for building belonging and collective resilience.
