My name is Mel Dowdell, founder of Million-Pixel Legacy, LLC.

For more than a year, I have dedicated my time, resources, and technology-development experience to building a new kind of fundraising and community-engagement platform—one designed to preserve important legacies, support meaningful causes, and bring communities together through technology. Today, that vision has become a working platform. Now, I need your help to take it to the next level.

The Idea: One Million Pixels. One Shared Legacy.

Million-Pixel Legacy transforms the portrait of an important historical figure into an interactive image made up of one million sponsorable pixels. Individuals, families, students, alumni, businesses, and organizations sponsor pixels. As participation grows, those pixels collectively complete the portrait.

But a sponsored pixel represents much more than a digital square. It represents a person's participation in preserving a story.

Sponsors can receive personalized certificates, commemorative digital artwork, recognition, and opportunities to participate in leaderboards, challenges, and other interactive experiences.

The concept is simple: Honor a Legacy. Fund a Cause. Build Community.

Why I Built Million-Pixel Legacy

I've spent decades developing web applications and using technology to solve real-world problems. Million-Pixel Legacy grew from a question: Could we create a technology platform that allows thousands of people to collectively preserve history while helping organizations raise money for important causes?

I believed the answer was yes. So, for the past year, I suspended most of my traditional website-development work and committed my resources to building the platform.

Working with a small development team, we developed the technology from the ground up while keeping development costs under control. We didn't have millions of dollars in venture capital. We had an idea, determination, and a belief that this could work. And we built it.

We Have Proven the Concept

In August 2026, we introduced Million-Pixel Legacy on a national stage at the 126th National Business League Conference in Atlanta.

The Booker T. Washington Million-Pixel Campaign gave people an opportunity to see the technology in action and sponsor pixels themselves.

That was an important milestone. We had moved from concept, to development, to deployment. Now we're building a portfolio of Million-Pixel campaigns that includes initiatives centered around Booker T. Washington, George Washington Carver, and the Tuskegee Airmen.

Now We're Going International

We recently reached another major milestone. Université Cheikh Anta Diop in Dakar, Senegal has signed an agreement to launch the Cheikh Anta Diop Million-Pixel Campaign. This will become our first international deployment.

For us, it represents something much bigger. It demonstrates that the Million-Pixel concept can extend beyond one historical figure, one organization, or even one country.

Our vision is global.

Introducing the 2027 Challenge

Our next major initiative is the Million-Pixel Legacy 2027 Challenge. We envision universities, alumni groups, students, businesses, associations, nonprofits, veterans, chapters, and communities participating in their own Million-Pixel campaigns while becoming part of a larger movement. Imagine communities competing on leaderboards.

Students learning about the people represented in each campaign. Businesses supporting causes that matter to their customers and communities. Organizations raising money while engaging supporters in an entirely new way. And people around the world becoming part of preserving history—one pixel at a time.

Why I'm Asking for Your Help

We've reached an important turning point.

The funds raised through this campaign will help us strengthen the technology, support platform operations, launch additional campaigns, expand marketing and outreach, onboard participating organizations, develop the 2027 Challenge, and prepare Million-Pixel Legacy for broader national and international growth.
