We envision that the Milky Way Garden will be a shared urban agriculture space for Parkdale. We believe that through community ownership we can assure that this land is used to meet local needs in the present and future!
OUR OPPORTUNITY
The Parkdale Neighbourhood Land Trust (PNLT) has partnered with Greenest City to acquire its first piece of community owned land! The Milky Way Garden is a privately owned vacant lot that hosts a community garden cared for by mostly tibetan seniors. With your help we will buy this property to secure this green space from development and create a dedicated urban agriculture space for Parkdale.
OUR VISION
We envision that the Milky Way Garden will be a shared urban agriculture space for Parkdale. Operated by Greenest City, it will host urban agriculture and environmental projects that increase access to healthy fresh food, while creating opportunities for environmental learning and community connections.
OUR CAMPAIGN
We have launched a fundraising campaign to raise $175,000 for the acquisition costs and 5 years of stewardship. Of this total amount we need to raise $25,000 in donations from community members and business owners.
WE NEED YOUR HELP!
We need your help to make Milky Way community owned! Please make a charitable contribution today. You can give as low as $10 or up to $5000 based on your capacity to give. All donors will receive a charitable receipt. Every dollar raised will go directly into the costs of acquiring and caring for the land as a community space for the residents of Parkdale that need it most. With your help every gift brings us one step closer to our goal and will allow healthy food to be grown in your community into the future.
WHO WE ARE
The Parkdale Neighbourhood Land Trust is a non-profit organization that is working to keep Parkdale affordable and diverse through the creation of community owned land. PNLT is working to acquire land for affordable & supportive housing, open space for urban agriculture and commercial space for non-profits and local businesses.
Greenest City is a community-based charitable organization dedicated to building healthy, inclusive neighbourhoods through community gardening and the celebration of food.
