Ladies that UX London Ontario hasn't added a story.
Why we need your help
Ladies that UX London Ontario is seeking funding and support for
their 2017 community meetups and free workshops which promote
skillbuilding and mentorship opportunities for women working in the
User Experience industries of design, digital, communications and
marketing. We are run entirely by volunteers and supported only
through Event Sponsors and people like you.
Your support will go towards our immediate needs which are:
- the cost of our meetup.com account
- providing workshop supplies such as pens, paper, sharpies and post-it notes
- transcripts for our videos to add closed captioning for accessibility
- venue rentals (if needed)
- merchandise to spread the word about our group such as posters and stickers
Any leftover funds will be used for:
- special workshop supplies such as physical technology or equipment
- special events (such as licensing movie screenings)
- future years of Ladies that UX London Ontario.
A bit about Ladies that UX
Mission statement:
Ladies that UX is a monthly meetup that creates a welcoming, transparent community of women that work in UX, who positively promote and teach each other.
Our values :
Relaxed, informal and welcoming. A safe haven where our ladies can come together and just be themselves without any of lives constraints. We are a community of women that empowers, mentors and promotes one another. We have a growing number of groups based in cities worldwide. Each city runs slightly different events, and each group decides what they want to get out of their get-togethers.
The London, Ontario chapter:
Goal and Vision
Our goal is to empower women working in and interested in the UX, design and tech fields by understanding their goals, motivations and desired support. We run events and initiatives to serve our members’ unique needs.
We have a vision of bridging the gender gap in our industry, locally and worldwide. We are women focused not women only and believe that by including everyone (men, women and all gender variants) in the discussion we can make the most impact to fulfill this vision.
History:
- Ladies that UX was founded in Manchester, UK in 2013 by Lizzie Dyson and Georgie Bottomley, both UX (User Experience) professionals. They started the group to meet more women in the field of UX
- Ladies that UX now has meetup group chapters in over 50 cities worldwide
- The London, Ontario Chapter was founded in Dec. 2015 by Kathleen MacAinsh and Ashley Keller
- Our group is the first in Ontario and second in Canada, first being Vancouver, British Columbia
-
During our first year we gained tons of
volunteer support from members and our community:
- ran 8 free meetups
- screened 2 free documentary events
- provided one free 1 full day workshop.
- partnered with the London Public Library and Ladies Learning code for a “Mega Meetup”, a screening of “Code: Debugging the Gender Gap” which had over 100 viewers attend.
- Our group has grown to over 280 members on meetup.com and has about 80 active members.
- In 2016, the London Ontario committee was formed to help broaden the impact our group delivers to our community and to work with the chapter’s co-founders to continue to fulfill Ladies that UX’s mission.
