Kestrel Educational Adventures has an extraordinary opportunity to move our home to a site surrounded by forest, fields and riverfront, where even normally elusive wildlife are abundant and active. Here, we can gather safely with you to learn about the natural world, to track wildlife, identify trees, measure turtles, and test water quality.
The goal of this fundraiser is to cover the moving expenses and first year of rent as we start this exciting new phase of Kestrel Educational Adventures.
The Space
Our new home is a co-working space at the Patton Homestead, on 24 acres of land, with another 100 acres of accessible woodland right across the street, in Hamilton, Massachusetts. It is right by the Ipswich River and includes a viewing dock and a boathouse. We will have our own indoor office and field cabin, and access to shared space including living rooms, kitchens, indoor and outdoor fireplaces, classrooms, and washing stations.
Backstory
Kestrel has been around, serving schools, individuals, and families, since 2003. While we have continued to provide engaging, project based learning and employ staff throughout this pandemic, we were uprooted from our home base last summer. We've been searching for a new place for almost a year now, and this place meets all our needs and allows us to serve the public and connect people to the natural world in many new ways.
For You
While we always have and always will travel throughout the county to connect people to their own lands, this site gives us an opportunity to also offer programs based at our new headquarters. We will be able to offer after-school programs, camps, and community natural history adventures, onsite. You and your children will be able to learn tracking, tree science, and outdoor skills right at Kestrel, and always have a place to duck inside if it rains, or to warm up around the fire and toast marshmallows with us.
