Dor L’Dor is the first Progressive (Reform) Jewish community in Georgia, committed to living Judaism as an open, ethical, and inclusive tradition — rooted in heritage and responsive to the realities of the present.
Our community offers egalitarian Shabbat and holiday services, lifelong Jewish learning, cultural programming, and social support for individuals and families. We welcome people of diverse backgrounds, identities, and levels of observance, creating a Jewish space grounded in dignity, equality, and shared responsibility.
At
present, Dor L’Dor does not yet have a permanent house of worship of
its own. Our services and programs take place in shared and temporary
spaces, which limits our ability to grow, plan long-term, and fully
serve our community.
This campaign is dedicated to securing a permanent home for Progressive Jewish life in Georgia.
We are raising funds to purchase real estate that will serve as our community’s long-term spiritual and cultural center. The property will be renovated and carefully designed to include:
- A dedicated prayer sanctuary for egalitarian worship
- A Beit Midrash / study space for Torah learning and adult education
- A children’s learning room for Jewish education
- A space for music, cultural programming, and community gatherings
- Offices and counseling space for pastoral and social support
- A welcoming reception area for guests and visitors
This will not simply be a building — it will be a living Jewish home.
A permanent space will allow us to build stability, expand programming, host international guests, and develop sustainable community structures. It will provide safety, continuity, and dignity for our members. It will also enable us to generate modest self-sustaining income through educational programs, cultural events, and partnerships that ensure long-term viability.
As part of our broader mission, Dor L’Dor is a founding partner of the Peace Project, a unique interfaith initiative that brings a synagogue, a mosque, and a church together within one shared space. Through this work, we actively promote dialogue, mutual respect, and cooperation among communities, reflecting the Progressive Jewish commitment to tikkun olam — repairing the world through local action.
Dor L’Dor is an associate member of the European Union for Progressive Judaism (EUPJ) and a recognized member of the World Union for Progressive Judaism (WUPJ), affirming our place within the global Progressive Jewish movement.
Supporting this campaign is not a short-term contribution. It is a generational investment.
By helping us secure and build our permanent home, donors are creating a lasting hub of prayer, music, Torah, culture, and community. A place where Shabbat candles will be lit week after week. Where children will learn their first Hebrew letters. Where families will celebrate lifecycle moments. Where interfaith dialogue will continue to flourish. Where guests from around the world will be welcomed with warmth and dignity.
As the first Progressive Jewish community in Georgia, Dor L’Dor is laying a foundation that will endure — from generation to generation.
This is an opportunity to invest in something lasting: a living, breathing model of Progressive Judaism in a region where such a presence is new, meaningful, and necessary.
A lifetime gift.
A permanent home.
A legacy for generations.
Building the Future of Progressive Judaism in the South Caucasus
Dor L’Dor was founded as the first Progressive (Reform) Jewish community in Georgia. Yet from the very beginning, our vision has extended beyond the borders of a single city or even a single country.
We believe that Georgia can become a center for the growth and development of Progressive Judaism throughout the South Caucasus and neighboring regions. As the only established Progressive Jewish community in this part of the world, we see a unique opportunity to create a regional hub that serves not only Georgia, but also emerging Jewish communities and individuals in Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Turkey who seek a modern, inclusive, and meaningful Jewish life. Today, our greatest challenge is not a lack of vision, commitment, or potential. It is the lack of space.
Our community has already outgrown the facilities available to us. We currently operate in rented and shared spaces that limit our ability to expand programming, welcome larger numbers of participants, host regional gatherings, and plan for the future with confidence. While temporary venues have allowed us to begin our journey, they cannot provide the stability required to build a lasting institution. Renting space may solve today's needs, but it cannot create tomorrow's future.
To become a true regional center of Progressive Judaism, we must establish a permanent multifunctional home that can support worship, education, cultural life, social action, leadership development, and international cooperation under one roof.
The demand already exists. The interest already exists. The potential already exists. What is missing are the physical resources necessary to transform that potential into reality.
A permanent center will allow us to host regional conferences, leadership seminars, educational programs, youth initiatives, rabbinic visits, conversion programs, interfaith dialogue projects, and cultural events that connect Jewish communities across borders. It will provide a place where individuals exploring Jewish life can find guidance and belonging, and where established community members can deepen their engagement for generations to come. This project is therefore about much more than acquiring a building. It is about creating the foundation for the future of Progressive Judaism in an entire region.
It is about ensuring that future generations in Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkey, and beyond have access to an open, welcoming, egalitarian, and vibrant Jewish community. The home we build today will serve not only those who walk through its doors now, but countless others who have not yet found their Jewish home.
Together, we can create a center that will inspire Jewish life, strengthen regional connections, and help shape the future of Progressive Judaism in the South Caucasus for generations to come.
Primary Goal: $7,350,000
Securing a Permanent Home for Progressive Jewish Life
Reaching our primary goal will allow Dor L’Dor to:
- Purchase real estate for a permanent community center
- Legally secure the property under community ownership
- Conduct essential structural renovations and safety upgrades
- Build a fully functional prayer sanctuary (egalitarian worship space)
- Establish a Beit Midrash (Torah study and adult learning room)
- Create dedicated classrooms for children and youth education
- Develop basic infrastructure: security systems, accessibility, utilities, and furnishings
This goal ensures stability.
It guarantees that Dor L’Dor will no longer rely on temporary or shared spaces. It establishes a dignified, secure, and lasting Jewish presence in Georgia — a home for Shabbat, holidays, lifecycle events, and community gathering.
Reaching $7.35 million means:
Dor L’Dor has a permanent address.
Bonus Goal: $9,500,000
Building a Thriving, Self-Sustaining, and Sustainable Jewish Hub
Reaching the bonus goal allows us to go beyond basic infrastructure and build a vibrant, long-term Jewish center designed for generations — spiritually strong, financially resilient, and environmentally responsible.
With $9.5 million, we will:
- Create a multipurpose cultural hall for concerts, lectures, and interfaith gatherings
- Establish a community library and Jewish cultural archive
- Develop media and educational production capabilities (streaming, recording, online learning)
- Create revenue-generating program spaces to help ensure long-term financial sustainability
- Establish a modest operating endowment to protect the community’s future
And in alignment with our commitment to tikkun olam — repairing the world through responsible action — we will also create a fully sustainable ecological infrastructure:
- Install a solar power system to make the building fully or largely energy self-sufficient
- Implement a water recycling and conservation system
- Develop a flourishing community garden for vegetables and fruit trees
- Create green outdoor space for learning, gathering, and environmental education
This will not only reduce long-term operational costs — it will embody Jewish values of stewardship, responsibility, and care for creation.
The building will become:
- A sanctuary for prayer
- A house of Torah
- A center for music and dialogue
- A model of ecological responsibility
- A space where spiritual life and sustainable living meet
As part of our sacred responsibility to history, we will also create a dedicated Holocaust memorial and educational space.
This memorial area will:
- Honor the memory of the six million Jews murdered during the Holocaust
- Remember Jewish communities destroyed across Europe and beyond
- Educate future generations about antisemitism, intolerance, and moral responsibility
- Serve as a quiet space for reflection, remembrance, and Yom HaShoah commemorations
In Georgia — a country with a unique and largely positive Jewish history — this memorial will also connect local Jewish memory with global Jewish history. It will ensure that remembrance is not abstract, but lived, visible, and intergenerational.
Reaching $9.5 million means:
Dor L’Dor becomes not only stable — but thriving, self-sustaining, and future-oriented.
