Arrabon House was founded in 1973 with the mission to support young women in need of safe shelter, emotional support and counselling.

Many of our youth struggle with mental illness, addiction and feelings of abandonment. We provide more than just food and shelter - we strive to provide our residents with a feeling of family. We work to foster confidence and self-worth without judgement or prejudice. Here is one resident's story:

“2005, the year I came to Arrabon, was a very emotionally difficult year for me. I was a newcomer to Canada and had no family support. Everything was foreign to me…the people, the culture, even the language. With no mother in the picture, I didn't have anyone to look up to, and my relationship with my father was abusive in all ways…ultimately it was this that led me to Arrabon House. I was scared to live in a new place, but I had no family or home to turn to. It ended up being the best decision I could have ever made. The female workers all treated me with respect and understanding, which made it feel more like a home, full of love and care, than my own family home had ever felt. I still keep in contact with many of the workers I met.

These women became my role-models and mother figures. The workers and many of the girls who lived there over the years…I can't describe in words what I owe them. If Arrabon programs weren't around these past 9 years of my life, I couldn't honestly tell you where I'd be today. I wouldn't be here to tell you how important it is to have services available for youth who truly are in need. In need of everyday help, help inding resources for a better today and a brighter tomorrow...or simply to have something and someone to call family and to feel whole once again.”

Whatever funds we raise will go towards our residents; making their holiday special, providing personal care items and continuing to support their health and wellness through team and confidence building programs.
