Virginia Quilt Museum, Inc hasn't added a story.
The Museum offers rotating exhibits of antique and contemporary quilts from its collection, other institutions, and private collections. Additionally, the Museum works hard to further its educational mission by hosting workshops and lectures for adults and youth both onsite and at other venues.
The Museum calls the Warren-Sipe House in Harrisonburg, Virginia home. This house, built in 1856, has an incredible history all its own having served as home to two prominent families before becoming a makeshift hospital during the Civil War where the “Boy Major,” Joseph Latimer died of gangrene from wounds received at the Battle of Gettysburg. As with any old home, its upkeep is a monumental task from both a labor and financial standpoint. Furthermore, the upper level is not handicapped accessible. It is our wish that someday we will have the funding to install an elevator in order that everyone may enjoy the beauty of the quilts and buildings architecture in person. Currently, we are only able to provide video and photographs of the upper level to those unable to ascend the picturesque staircase.
Please help us continue preserving the beautiful cultural heritage of the quilting of Virginia. Even if you are not a quilter, the social and cultural aspects of quilting have shaped the lives of people around the world. Help us preserve our heritage by donating to our cause. Please share this appeal with all of your friends, family, and co-workers. Thank you for your support.
