Altevette Project is a UK Registered Charity (Reg No. 1177053) which funds the development and support of a school project for disadvantaged girls in the remote region of Upper Mustang in Nepal on the border with Tibet.

Girls in this area are vulnerable to extreme poverty and exploitation and have little opportunity for education due to the lack of schools at high altitude in such remote and harsh regions.

The educational system of Upper Mustang has as its foundation the Buddhist doctrine and, with rare exceptions, there are no other schools outside of the monasteries and religious communities.  Our students receive a full government secular school curriculum, 3 languages, Tibetan, Nepali and English as well as Buddhist ritual activities and Buddhist instruments such as gongs, cymbals, trumpet etc. are also learned.

When the school was opened in 2012, with 18 girls, the newly built school included a toilet block and shower room.  Since then we have grown at an almost unbelievable rate and now there are 53 girls aged 5 to 18 in school, 9 teachers and 2 support staff, all of whom are fully resident and live full time at the school.

As you might imagine, with only 2 toilets between everyone, the toilet facilities are now woefully inadequate, and we have an urgent need to build 2 more toilet facilities adjacent to the classrooms, which we also needed to extend in the last couple of years.

The landscape in this high-altitude region on the Tibetan plateau is very harsh and water supply is precious.  With few facilities, the students mostly use the nearby stream for washing and drinking water.  Personal hygiene and adequate sanitation is critically important, of course, to prevent the spread of infection and disease and providing toilets near to the classrooms is an essential requirement for our students.

Please help us raise the funds to construct desperately new toilet facilities for our students and staff as a matter of some urgency.
