EDITED WITH PRIDE
Editing shapes how ideas move through the world.
Editors help authors sharpen arguments, clarify meaning, strengthen accessibility, and reach readers with precision and care. Across publishing, academia, nonprofits, journalism, healthcare, law, and media, LGBTQ+ editors are part of the invisible infrastructure behind the books, articles, reports, campaigns, and stories that shape public life.
During Pride Month, the LGBTQ+ Editors Association is celebrating the labor, expertise, and community of LGBTQ+ editors—and raising funds to sustain the work ahead.
LEA was founded to create professional community, visibility, and support for LGBTQ+ editors across industries and career stages. Our members include copyeditors, developmental editors, proofreaders, indexers, scholarly editors, grant editors, communications professionals, publishing workers, and many others whose work strengthens writing and knowledge production every day.
We believe editing is cultural work. Editors influence what becomes legible, publishable, teachable, and enduring. LGBTQ+ editors bring critical insight, care, and lived experience to that work while helping build more equitable and inclusive professional spaces.
Your tax-deductible donation helps LEA continue building resources, opportunities, and community for LGBTQ+ editors.
Your support helps us:
Sustain professional development and mentorship
We organize workshops, office hours, networking events, peer support spaces, and educational programming that help LGBTQ+ editors grow their careers and strengthen their craft.
Build community and reduce professional isolation
Many LGBTQ+ editors work remotely or as freelancers. LEA creates spaces for connection, collaboration, resource sharing, and mutual support across geography, specialties, and career paths.
Increase visibility for LGBTQ+ editorial professionals
We highlight the expertise and contributions of LGBTQ+ editors and advocate for recognition of editorial labor across publishing and related industries.
Support a more inclusive editing and publishing landscape
We help foster conversations around accessibility, language, representation, equity, and editorial ethics while supporting editors navigating these issues in practice.
Create opportunities for the next generation
We are committed to helping emerging LGBTQ+ editors enter and thrive in the profession through mentorship, education, and community support.
Pride is about more than celebration. It is also about sustaining communities, supporting one another’s work, and building institutions where LGBTQ+ people can thrive.
When you donate to LEA, you invest in the editors who help shape books, scholarship, journalism, advocacy, and public knowledge every day. You help ensure LGBTQ+ editors have the resources, networks, and support they need to continue doing that work with care, rigor, and pride.
