Rescue friends and family,
We are in desperate need of your help. With donations dwindling we have no choice but to call on you, our faithful supporters. If you are able to, please help us today by making a life-saving tax-deductible donation towards Freedom, Buddy and Ferdie’s care costs. There is no us without you and we thank you whole heartedly for your support.
FREEDOM It’s been just a week since Freedom, formerly named Monster, was chained to a radiator in the South Bronx. His former abusive owners beat him regularly with a stick and old toys. They fed him sporadically, forcing him to survive on scraps of bones, beans and rice. Thankfully a neighbor got involved and reached out for help. When picked up we were told he hadn’t eaten in 5 days. Heartbreakingly, when walked out of the building he frantically began eating dirty snow. Freedom has been at our vet since his rescue where he is being fed multiple small meals each day and carefully monitored. He is extremely hand shy but just the other day began giving out soft, gentle, kisses to everyone he has come to love and trust. We have had a full work up done on our boy, and while he is thankfully mostly in good health, he does have a low white blood cell count that will warrant further testing. He has received all his shots and was neutered as well. Freedom was an emergency rescue and we need help paying his medical and extended hospital stay bills.
BUDDY was rescued from horrifying conditions. He was forced to wear a 10 pound chain and sit in his own waste outside of a disgusting house in Far Rockaway. And if that weren’t bad enough the only attention he got involved the man who formerly owned him beating him. His rescue was a long time in the making and included multiple visits from us and our good friend, who also happens to be a local Captain in the NYPD. We had been called to help by a neighbor who used to watch from her project window as Buddy was kicked and hit. Ultimately, the family moved out in the middle of the night leaving Buddy chained outside until we came to free him. We thought Buddy had found his fairytale ending but the adopter encountered health issues that made it impossible for her to keep him and continue the in home training we had been providing. Due to his extremely abusive past Buddy can be very fearful of people initially, especially men. When he was at our vet’s office he would literally shake in fear while being hand fed. We have wasted no time and placed him with our trusted NJ trainer who we have worked with for years. This is a critical time in his rehabilitation and we desperately need your help to pay for the training he needs to work through his fears. This training is imperative in order for him to lead a successful life.
FERDIE, our beloved 14 year old rescue from Animal Care & Control was recently diagnosed by the neurological team at AMC with vestibular disease, an infection deep in the inner ear canal. He is currently taking two strong antibiotics for the next 3 weeks and then will return to see the neuro team to gauge next steps. We are committed to giving him the best care possible but need your help covering his specialist and vet visits.
Every dollar counts in rescue and any amount you are able to contribute is tax-deductible and much appreciated.
