SOS (shelly olree's shelter) hasn't added a story.
Graphic, I know....this is Peanut. "Thee" Peanut of Peanut's Purpose. Thank you for taking the time to read his story, his purpose, and our plea for help.
I was contacted via message by an Angel, named Angel :)She was concerned for the welfare of the cats at her neighbor's as well as for the neighbor herself. After reaching out to all the logistical shelters, animal controls, rescues to no avail she came across the SOS and thought what the heck. Little did she know, that although I am clear across the other side of the state, I was willing to see what I could do to help. With the help of Sally, Louise, and Gail of AC Paws, and my mom as my co-pilot, we visited the home. There in a beam of sunlight was Peanut. Infectious eyes protruding from his head, blind to his loss of kittenhood, all of 8 ounces, skin and bones, brought each of us to tears. That day we pulled 28 of the sickest, most malnourished, flea bitten, mite laden cats and kittens out of the sheer reaction of our compassion, and headed directly to the veterinary clinic. Thanks to Clarke Everett and their wonderful staff to allow us to storm their office. After much consideration, we made a collective decision to humanely euthanize little Peanut, surgery to remove the eyeballs was an option, but due to his incredibly frail little body, he would have had to spend days on top of days in that condition in hopes of reaching pre-surgery weight.
We each said goodbye, as we took turns cradling his little self, and assuring him, that all of those left behind would not be forgotten. As I watched the tears stream down the cheeks of the women in that room, I knew this was a situation I would not turn my back on. You see, Peanut's life had a purpose. His purpose lights the fire deep within me to see this situation to an end.
We are needing donations to purchase flea medications, wormer, litter, food and the supplies we will need to pull off this massive rescue effort. We are expecting help from a grant we applied for though the Humane Society of the United Statets, for the extensive vetting, but will need immediate funds to feed and litter the cats and kittens we pull, immediately. We are 501c3 organization and we need your help NOW.
I am currently making a strong, organized plan to rescue the 40 some cats left behind....we need fosters, we need adoptive homes, and we need qualified rescue's to help us fulfill Peanut's Purpose. I will not rest until the last cat is rescued. Thank you :)
