Support Teacher Training: build a future for the next generations of refugees and migrants from Myanmar
Imagine arriving at school to find out that your favorite
teacher quit because of salary cut. Imagine your teacher does not know
how to teach. Imagine you go to school and there is no teacher at all.
Over decades, thousands of students have witnessed such situations due to the long lasting conflicts inside Myanmar and the minimal support from neighboring countries they escape to.
Since 2001, our program serves the neediest, most isolated and least supported schools on the Thai-border; in 9 refugee camps, across the migrant area in Thailand and inside Myanmar:
- We train committed people to become teachers and to tackle the turnover and lack of teachers.
- We invest in people who -despite low income due to limited budget- are dedicated to serve their communities educating future generations.
- We train working teachers to use student-centered approaches, creating active and analytical classrooms and foster critical thinking.
For decades, the people we serve have faced many challenges- settlements in temporary refuges, extreme poverty, limited or non-existent basic services, segregation from host country (Thailand) and country of origin (Myanmar). Their educational structures receive no support from state education institutions and usually have poor facilities, untrained teachers and minimal resources. They struggle to prepare students to build a better future. Recent political changes in both Thailand and Myanmar are resulting rapid and sharp reduction of support, including funds. Consequently the number of teachers in the border area is decreasing and the quality of education is deteriorating.
Migrant and refugee camps schools are, especially now, desperately in need of trained teachers to help provide quality education.
‘'The training has enhanced the quality of teaching offered to our students” said Saw A Du, a Science teacher who participated in one of our teacher trainings.
Other participants expressed that they now feel “able to appropriately choose what to teach” demonstrating confidence to start their teaching journey.
We have over a decade of teacher training experiences and context knowledge. We have trained over 1,800 teachers. But…
We can do more!
Now, that is mostly needed!
Reaching our goal of means, USD 15,000, we will in one year train at least 300 teachers. This will directly benefit over 10,000 students.
All sorts of contributions can make a big difference:
$30 will provide learning materials for a three-day
training course
$70 will cover transportation for 25 participants to
the training
$150 will sponsor one-day of a teacher training for
25 participants
$300 will sponsor three-days of a teacher training
for 25 participants
Help us reach our goal and serve the communities that depend on us and that are dedicated to support us in their possible means.
