Redonda Bay Master HOA hasn't added a story.
Great things are happening at Redonda Bay!
All Redonda Bay Homeowners are aware of the past and current problems with the "Main Entrance Road" that leads up the steep hill to the Aqua Reception area!
The condition of the road was the # 1 priority for over 70 percent of homeowners surveyed in Feb 2023.
One great happening is that Redonda Bay Master HOA embarked on a really interesting and exciting experiment to learn if it was possible for its own employees, under the supervision of MHOA Administrator Omar, to become educated and learn how to put serious concrete road pavers (the same large pavers the Nica government used to pave the road from Tola into Gigante) down on a tiny portion of the hill below the entrance to Aqua.
A civil road engineer was brought down from Managua to look at the road and educate Omar and some employees on what might be possible, what materials would be needed, and what the construction methods would need to be in order to build a strong road that could support large delivery trucks, handle different types of rain storms and seasons, and provide a long term solution.
Omar ordered up enough materials to "Pave" (not with tar but hand-install concrete interlocking road blocks called Adoquines in Nicaragua) 12 feet / 3 meters of road.
The Adoquines (cement blocks) were ordered up for this teensy, experimental portion of road.
Piedra Canterra - sawn, rectangular, beefy, earthen blocks of actual stone was also ordered up and to be used to create a strong edge of a side drain so the water could run down the side of the road without eroding the road.
Sand was ordered up (yes, believe it or not, under all the paved government roads is 3-5 millimeters of sand that helps lock everything together).
Concrete bags were ordered up as well as crushed stone to mix concrete to a strong (4,000 PSI) strength so it could be used to fill in important gaps in the side of the road, and hold the Pietra Cantera in position over time.
The materials were delivered in late February, and the experiment began!
A section of road that was not too steep was selected as a test section, and the idea was to start at an existing concrete "canal" mid-way up the hill that has always been on the road and was initially installed to pass water from one side of the road to the other.
So it was decided that this tiny section of road would be built above this existing concrete water canal such that any water that landed on the newly "paved" portion of the road would drain directly into this existing canal and off the road.
Great things started to happen.....a wheelbarrow, axe picks, shovels, levels, string, hammers and concrete nails emerged from Omar's storage area and they were off!
There were smiles and thumbs-up gestures from employees, guests, and owners passing by this experiment as it unfolded.
In a matter of a few days, a teensy, tiny miracle happened in Redonda Bay - a 12-foot section of ruts and dirt was transformed into a beautiful section of new road! Yes, new road, road that won't wash away, complete with a few artistic turtle paintings on a few adoquines that would represent the natural elegance and beauty of the sanctuary experience guests were headed for at the top of the hill.
The total material costs were about $360 USD for this 12 foot section of hope. This translated into $30 per foot of new road (not including labor which was supplied by current MHOA employees).
There were smiles and glimpses of pride inside those that worked on this improvement.
One owner suggested perhaps a micro-crowdfunding campaign to raise enough money to do another section of road?
Then another great thing happened - this campaign was born!
So please consider doing what you can to help raise $378 US Dollars (Fundrazr takes a reasonable 5% fee for all monies raised to cover credit card processing fees and other fees they incur) - about $18 dollars of the total funds raised will go to this fundraising site FundRazr, and the important part ($360) will purchase enough materials for another 12' of road to be constructed.
If we succeed with this campaign, we will have gone forward, and this money will be planted firmly in the ground within Redonda Bay!
Please consider contributing any amount you can to help us reach our goal!
Thanks so much!
