CARE Network got the call about Geoff, a semi-social cat on Thursday around 10AM: a severely injured cat, possibly with a very broken rear leg, had been seen limping around for weeks. He was currently sitting under a window.
We were on the scene and setting live traps within 30 minutes. It took two days to get him and in the end, the traps didn't work, we had to use some OG tactics.
Geoff has obviously been trapped previously. He was hungry for the food inside the several traps around him but knew better than to go in and get it. Seeing this, we switch tactics. We placed the-worst-for-you, smelliest cat food we had in stock in a cat carrier, covered it with a blanket, and waited behind some bushes. Within an hour, Geoff was limping towards the open door. He eventually limped cautiously into the carrier.
Now for the hard part. One of us had to sneak up on the carrier, without Geoff knowing we were coming, to close the door. With my nerves steadied and breath held, I took off my shoes and tiptoed toward the carrier. I thought my lungs were going to burst as I had forgot to breathe. I paused to exhale, made sure to be extra silent, and crept closer. I swung the door closed and latched it. "Got him!"' (I screamed internally).
We covered him up and off we went to get him settled at the animal shelter to wait for a vet appointment.
Geoff has now seen Dr. Berry at Tofino Vet Clinic. His rear leg is a mess but so is one of his front paws. Geoff's back leg is severely infected, possibly into the bone. Hopefully it is not also broken. We are awaiting some test results before we progress with antibiotics and surgeries. He is being such a good boy, not fussing at all as we held him for the examination, taking his meds like a champ, etc.
It is going to be a long haul of recovery for this little guy and we are in it to win it! Please be a hero and help save Geoff by chipping in to help pay for his surgeries and meds. All donors will receive a pro, digital pic of Geoff that can be printed and framed, made into a pillow or used as wallpaper on your phone.
