TheatreWorks Florida is thrilled and proud to launch its newest community outreach initiative, CultureWorks , an all-inclusive theatre experience embracing the diversity of our “communities of culture”. The program is FREE and will offer opportunities in all elements of the theatre arts in hopes the outcome will foster confident relationships with arts organizations, advancement of skills in the theatre industry and lifelong learning and participation in the creative, technical, administrative and performance roles of theatre. CultureWorks will provide opportunities not only for our African American, Latin and Asian communities but also LGBTQ+, women and disabled communities to experience theatre without institutional racism stifling their creativity. Theatre can heal, educate and empower us all to be better versions of ourselves... we are ready to be better Today than we were Yesterday!
THE PROGRAM:
CultureWorks will engage our communities of
culture and offer theatre arts opportunities in the following areas of interest:
Creative Theatre:
Recommended for creative writers, directors, talent or
anyone simply interested in the theatre.
- Through shared experiences, find common ground in a 'safe space' environment that explores all aspects of theatre. Then create an original show to present to the public for awareness of our local communities of culture and the issues they face in today’s society.
- Status: Entry Level
- Tuition: FREE
- Participants: 20 maximum
Technical Theatre: Recommended for anyone with an interest in design or technical theatre roles - experience encouraged but not required.
- Every season, there will be opportunities to take part in 'shadow training ' with certain staff, design or technical roles in the theatre throughout the entire production process of all main stage shows.
- Status: Intern Level
- Hiring Contract: Required
- Stipend: Negotiated at time of hire
- Participants: Training areas are subject to availability of theatre roles for any given show. Estimating between 1-4 participants.
Performance Theatre: Recommended for singer/dancers and musicians.
- Take to the stage for exciting professional performances in our 'Small but Mighty Musicals' Series 2021-22.
- Status: Performance Level – audition required.
- Hiring Contract: Required
- Salary: Offered at time of hire
- Participants: A minimum of 5 actors and 5 musicians.
Administrative Theatre: Recommended for anyone with an interest in theatre administrative staff roles; experience encouraged but not required.
- Learn the "business" of show while shadowing administrative roles that keep an entire company running efficiently and effectively, producing high quality, professional productions year in and year out.
- Status: Intern Level
- Hiring Contract: Required
- Stipend: Negotiated at time of hire
- Participants: Training areas are subject to availability of theatre roles for any given show. Estimating between 1-2 participants.
THE FUN STUFF:
CultureWorks
will explore Music and Theatre Arts through:
- Creative Workshops helmed by the participants themselves
- Hands-on training in technical and administrative job roles for Main Stage productions
- Special Guest Artist appearances
- Performances created by participants presented to the public
- Arts Access Pass (2 FREE tickets to every TheatreWorks Florida event)
- Field Trips to outside Theatre Arts events (funding pending)

SPECIAL NOTE: Included in the CultureWorks program is an “Arts Access Pass”. Each program participant will receive two FREE tickets to every TheatreWorks Florida event throughout the year. We strive to eliminate the financial barrier that prevents families & individuals from experiencing our theatre’s vibrant & diverse stage productions.
