The community-oriented ministry of the people called Methodists has been active since the 1840's in Cranford, NJ.  Today, you may know us as "The church across from the library," "The soup church," "That church with all of the service opportunities," or "That church with the red shirts."   Of course, we value all of these reputations, but want to share the "why" of our church's community.

We believe that the essence of living out our faith in Jesus is to "love the Lord our God with all of our hearts/souls/minds and "to love our neighbors as we love ourselves."  Jesus says that everything else in religion hangs stems from these two simple commands.  As a faith community, we worship together, experiencing God's love together and expressing a musical and prayer-filled response.  We grow deeper in relationship with each other in studies and meals and other ways of "doing life together." We believe that we are called to be outwardly focused in the expression of faith, which is where all of the service opportunities come in, we love our neighbors and seek to have a positive impact on our corner of the world in the name of Jesus.  

We also host a plethora of life-improving organizations.  The Christian Connection Before and After School Program, The Counseling Center for Human Development, Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, and Anonymous Groups, and Celebration Singers all call CUMC "home." We are proud of these community partnerships and hope you are able to use them if they are helpful to your situation.  Our partnership with Boy Scout Troop 75 is one of the oldest in the country, dating back to 1910!
