Dear Future Sponsor and Friend,

Since I was a young child art has been a very important component in my life. Art has influenced how I understand the world, how I teach and relate to others. I am not a trained artist but I have learned skills and art techniques, which have allowed me to grow creatively and have allowed for a creative and emotional outlet for the children that I serve. All children deserve access to art exploration. Children in Sierra Leone deserve art.

In July 2016, in partnership with the American International School of Freetown, I will be hosting an art camp for elementary and middle school children of Freetown, Sierra Leone. Sierra Leone is a tiny, third world country in West Africa. The country has been negatively affected by civil war, Ebola, poverty and natural disasters. This camp is to uplift the children that have been affected by these things and other factors. Through dance, theater, visual arts and music, students will have two weeks to explore, create, express and make new friends. The vision is an all day camp with local and expatriate artists and teachers teaching alongside one another to provide a memorable experience for children of greatly varied backgrounds.

The goal is to send at least 40 children to camp. The demographic will be a mixture of children from various economic, social, and national backgrounds. There will be children from AISF making art along with children in Freetown, who could not dream of this experience without your support. Your sponsorship will enable children deprived of opportunity for artistic expression to participate in the Arts Camp, free of charge. Who knows what talents we’ll discover! Your monetary sponsorship will make this happen.

As a Sierra Leone-American this camp is important to me and my culture. As an educator this camp is important to me. As a child advocate and art enthusiast this camp is important to me. I relate to this camp on so many levels and with all of my being. I know it is going to be amazing. This dynamic blend of cultures and of economic and social backgrounds cannot fail to open doors for every child in the camp.
