Hogacre Common Eco Park's summer vegetarian/vegan cafe will pop-up on Sundays, 2 June – 29 September .

Step 3: After the cafe crowdfunder ends on the 27 May we will email everyone who has supported us with their code/s, which they can use to claim their ‘perks’ in the cafe this summer. (We are open Sundays, 2 June - 29 September - apart from 7 July, when we will close for Cowley Road Carnival).

Why are we doing this?

Due to the (beautiful yet hard-to-get-to) nature of Hogacre Common, we need your support and your custom to make our summer as successful as possible.

As well as becoming a Community Interest Company – co-led by voluntary Directors, Helen Morley and Minh Nguyen – we’re growing our team this summer, creating two paid Cafe Manager positions, to keep the Sunday Cafe and its volunteers powered up. These new roles will support our new Cafe Work Experience scheme, to help people on their journey back towards employment, and our Volunteer Food Waste Ambassadors, who will lead the Cafe’s work to combat food waste. In addition, we have a few small DIY projects on our wish list, which we think will make the Hogacre Pavilion, where the Cafe is based, even more welcoming and super-organised.

Our crowdfunder will end on 27 May. We’re aiming to raise at least £4,500, to ensure that we can go ahead with our build projects! Any donation will make a real difference. Thank you!

Our Mission

The Cafe is a Community Interest Company with three central aims:

Promoting Hogacre Common Eco Park

The Eco Park is our home, and a place for the public to engage with local wildlife, environmental issues, and low-carbon ways of living. The Cafe hosts events, shares information, and provides a meeting place to promote the Eco Park’s goals.

We work especially closely with OxGrow, our neighbouring community garden within the Eco Park. The Cafe brings OxGrow volunteers together to relax and chat over a free communal meal after a hard day’s work.

Putting Good Food to Good Use

The Cafe engages with environmentally sound food habits, through vegetarian and vegan cooking and the use of local suppliers. We make use of surplus food from our partners OxGrow and the Oxford Food Bank, with our Food Waste Ambassadors sharing their recipes, ideas, and techniques for making the most of food that might otherwise be thrown away.

Investing In Local People

The Cafe will be working with local employment charity Aspire to offer work experience and support local people to move towards and into employment.

All of our trainees, volunteers, and paid staff are offered training and opportunities to take on leadership roles in the growth and development of the Cafe.
