Welcome to our crowdfunding fundraiser for Rusing School on Rusinga Island, situated in Lake Victoria, Western Kenya. Beyond the traditional scope of education, our mission goes hand-in-hand with fostering positive change by addressing the critical issue of physical violence. The Problem We Are Solving: In Homa Bay County, encompassing Rusinga Island, recent statistics reveal the county ranks second highest in Kenya for physical violence against females aged 15 and above, with a concerning 53.5% incidence. Teachers contribute to the highest percentage of physical violence against males and females aged 15-49, accounting for 28% of males and 33% of females experiencing violence from their teachers.
Our Solution: To address this pervasive issue, our Community Based Organization is spearheading a holistic approach. We're not only focused on curriculum innovation but also on providing a safe and conducive physical environment. The Rusinga Community School is under construction, with local materials and labor. We are urgently fundraising 1.3 million Kenyan Shillings (approximately $8460.00 USD) to complete the construction of classroom walls and install metal roofs.
