National Stem Cell Foundation, Inc. hasn't added a story.
Mother's Day is May 10.
Why is the National Stem Cell Foundation reminding you of Mother's Day? What do moms have to do with stem cell research?
Right now the National Stem Cell Foundation is funding a joint collaboration with the National MS Society for adult stem cell research for myelin repair.
The most common demyelinating disease is multiple sclerosis (MS). MS occurs when myelin - the white matter in the brain and the insulation around nerve fibers - is attacked and deteriorates leaving nerve endings exposed and unable to transmit signals. The result is fatigue, brain fog, vision problems and sometimes paralysis.
MS can occur in anyone - including children. But, it hits women more frequently than men. MS is at least two to three times more common in women than men. That means there are lots of moms out there with MS - and they (and their families) will benefit when a cure is found.
MS doesn't affect fertility, but 20-40% of new moms with MS suffer a relapse after delivery. Additionally, fatigue and other symptoms may affect the amount of activity a mom with MS may be able to perform with children in their younger years.
Stem cell research for MS could help someone's mom - maybe even someone you know.
Maybe even your mom.
Make a gift to the National Stem Cell Foundation for Mother's Day. Millions of moms are waiting for a cure.
About NSCF:
The National Stem Cell Foundation funds and supports collaboration in adult stem cell research.
NSCF is the national public foundation for adult stem cell research. We are unaffiliated with any specific academic institution and are not focused on a specific disease or condition.
Millions of people and their families will be impacted by the cures and therapies gained from stem cell research. It is our goal to make research happen faster. We want to speed cures to people who need them - maybe even someone you know.
NSCF funds the most promising stem cell research with the greatest capacity to address a broad range of health issues. But, scientific discovery isn't inexpensive. It takes funding to keep labs open, to pay researchers and to conduct safe and comprehensive clinical trials.
Breakthroughs are waiting. Donate now.
