We need your help to fund The Marine Science Consortium's Sea S.T.A.R. (Students Teaching and Researching) Program. This internship program for rising high school seniors is 9 weeks and includes three components: environmental education programs, research and enrichment. Students work alongside program staff to provide environmental education programs and summer camp activities; periodically attend college level courses; develop their own research project or legacy project; and explore the exciting marine habitats of the Eastern Shore of VA. This program is a wonderful opportunity to enhance and develop self-confidence, self-awareness, communication skills, and personal leadership style. The internship is a unique opportunity for students to gain job experience, to learn about the exciting field of Marine Science and to make new friends. Students gain work and research experience that they may then apply in their senior year in high school and beyond.

The Sea S.T.A.R. High School Internship Program is currently completely funded by The Marine Science Consortium (MSC). MSC’s goal has been to cover costs of the program for the first two years while seeking funding in order to continue the program. We are now entering our 3rd year of the program and must find additional funding to not only continue the program but to expand its reach. Additional funding would allow us to open the program to additional students, offer more options for student research and enrichment as well as expand the program into the school year. Year-round opportunities would allow us to more effectively connect with students from the Eastern Shore area. Students from this economically challenged region will benefit greatly from enriching activities that illustrate educational and career options in scientific and resource management fields.

Your gift to the Sea S.T.A.R. program will give bright, passionate high school interns from the Eastern Shore and around the country hands-on science and education experience that will inform life-long decisions.
