Ethel, 72, called the AHIP office last week with a big problem. Not only was her roof was leaking and in terrible condition, but her homeowners insurance company said they would cancel her insurance next month if she didn’t get it replaced.

Ethel lives in Charlottesville and gets by on a small, fixed income. She uses a walker to get around her house, and takes care of her adult son, who is developmentally disabled. And without AHIP and Seniors Safe at Home, she’d have no way to get that roof fixed.

Seniors Safe at Home keeps elderly neighbors like Ethel safe at home, focusing on the most pressing home repair needs for people age 62 and older. Right now, there are 149 elderly households on AHIP’s waiting list. Seniors Safe at Home aims to eliminate that waiting list.

CAAR and BRHBA have joined forces with AHIP to raise funds and awareness for our elderly neighbors in need of home repairs. You can join in and support senior citizens in Charlottesville and Albemarle during the 2013 Seniors Safe at Home Campaign, which runs from April 1st through July 1st. Help us reach our $30,000 goal and donate today!
