BrainChild hasn't added a story.
Hello! My name is Chad Mielke, local Edmonton business owner and community enthusiast, and welcome to BrainChild!
Did you know:
- 128,810 people live in poverty in metro Edmonton, or 10.5% (2013)
- 41,640 children and youth live in poverty in metro Edmonton, or 15.2% (2013)
- 17.5% of Edmontonians never graduated high school (2011)
- Poverty costs Albertans in the range of $7.1 billion to $9.5 billion per year including health care costs, crime, inter-generational, and opportunity costs (2012)
BrainChild’s Vision is a community where no child is left behind; where all are nurtured; and where all graduate high school and go on to be productive members of society in adulthood.
Our Mission is to provide children-in-need, whether disempowered or disengaged, the opportunity to discover a love of learning, specifically math and science.
On January 23, 2016, BrainChild will take 200 kids-in-need to a one-day science camp, for free, at the Telus World of Science Edmonton from 9:30 am to 5:00 p.m. and ignite the spark!
It is our goal to have 100% of the event costs paid for by local businesses and the community-at-large so that our kids can attend the event without having to worry about the expense.
Our event budget is $10,000 and we are asking for donations in any denomination you are comfortable with. Think of what you would spend on a nice supper out with a bottle of wine and instead donate that amount to this worthy cause. Why? Because every kid needs a helping hand.
The $10,000 will be spent on:
- General admission to Telus World of Science Edmonton including all permanent galleries and the special exhibit Beyond Rubik’s Cube
- An IMAX movie
- A Margaret Zeidler Star Theatre (planetarium) show
- Live demonstrations in the Science Garage and Learning Centre
- Pizza lunch including juice and chips, and morning and afternoon snacks
- Transportation to and from the event from multiple Edmonton locations
- An event tote bag / backpack for all participants including adult volunteers filled with goodies
- Event t-shirts for all participants including adult volunteers
The cycle of poverty starts with our children and supporting BrainChild is one way you can do something meaningful to help Edmonton’s children-in-need. Please give generously and help us break the cycle!
Please share this worthy cause with your friends, family and work colleagues to help us raise awareness and raise money to make BrainChild a reality!
