Southern Siberian Rescue hasn't added a story.
Southern Siberian Rescue is a 501c3 rescue based out of Raleigh, NC. We are a small group of dedicated volunteers responsibly rescuing Siberian Huskies in need throughout North Carolina and surrounding states. Our sole purpose and priority is to help unwanted, misunderstood, abandoned or neglected Siberians find homes. We do this by providing needed health care, rehabilitation and training for all our foster dogs and carefully screening potential adopters.
We received an email from Alexander County Animal Shelter in Taylorsville, NC on Trooper, a 4-5 year old male Siberian Husky that was brought in by a good samaritan. A young boy was walking in the woods and heard whining and screams from an animal but couldn't find his location. This young boy went home and told his Grandfather of his concerns. They both searched for days but couldn't find him and then voila...they found Trooper with his busted chain wrapped up in a barbed wire fence. They set him free with bolt cutters and took him to their local shelter. That is when we were contacted and immediately plans were made to pull and transport Trooper to SSR.
Trooper has the most sever infestation of ticks that the shelter, SSR and the vet at the ER have ever seen. With that, he is anemic, suffering from dehydration and muscle mass loss. We don't know how long he was caught in the barbed wire going without food and water but it clear he's been without both for a long time.
Trooper was immediately taken to Animal Emergency Hospital & Urgent Care in Raleigh and first order of business is to get the massive amout of ticks off of him. He will be shaved down and sedated to achieve that. Of course he will be on fluids and bloodwork will be done. At this time, we don't know exactly everything that may need addressed but his prognosis is good. He just needs to get his strength back from the anemia and dehydration.
SSR put an $1800 deposit down for Trooper to get the urgent care he needs for the next 24 hours and it is our hope to get him to our vet on Monday. He may have to stay at ER until then which will increase his bill. He will surely need more follow up visits with our vet to check and evaluate his progress.
We are waiting to hear updates on Trooper but ask that you find it in your heart to make a donation on his behalf so that we can help him find his strength and give him the good life that he deserves. If you are unable to help financially, please consider sharing his story. Thank you for your consideration and positive thoughts for Trooper.
