Sage came to our shelter from Death Row in Georgia and was driven back to Connecticut by Halfway Home Rescue volunteers. Emaciated and heartworm positive, Sage beat those odds only to find out she was suffering from end stage liver failure....

Sage is the sweetest dog and a very special girl.  She came to our shelter from Death Row in Georgia in September 2013. Volunteers drove her and 50 other dogs back to Connecticut in hopes of finding them forever homes and better lives.

Upon her arrival in Connecticut, Sage tested positive for heartworm (quite common in the South) and successfully completed her treatment.  While Sage was recovering from heartworm treatment, she got very sick and ended up in the hospital. Exploratory surgery led to the discovery of a blockage in her stomach and an infection in her liver. Surgery was a success, but a liver biopsy revealed very sad news- Sage is in end stage liver failure. Our veterinarians are managing her condition with prescription food, but have given her just a year or two to live.

We are so heartbroken and sad. Sage's surgery bill was close to $3,000 and remains unpaid (we're still catching up on major medical bills from two other rescued animals). Her medication and prescription food are very expensive too. Sage is currently in a long term foster home and will remain there unless we can find a kind soul to love her for whatever time remains.

Please contribute to Sage's care- every dollar helps!
