The Michigan Alliance Of TimeBanks

The Peace Community Spiritual Center located in Southfield, Michigan (known by its volunteers as the Peace Center) is a not-for-profit organization created as a means to support and provide a unified home for displaced community groups and congregations hard hit by the economic downfall. We need your generous support so that we may continue to establish and sustain a "community without boundaries" this winter.

Here is a short version of the Peace Center's story (a longer version can be found here:

Four years ago a small group of caring people at Peace Lutheran Church created the foundations for a the Peace Center by opening the church doors to numerous spiritual and civic organizations that were displaced in part by the area’s financial struggles. Today the Peace Center provides a shared space for five congregations all of which are different ethnically, doctrinally and in worship style. Additionally the Peace Center shares its community room and stage with a local theater group and meeting space with TimeBank community organizers.

The Peace Center has hosted educational and creative seminars, town meetings, and lectures as a means to bring together members of the community who might not have met otherwise. Anonymous groups along with drug and alcohol counseling are part of the Peace Center community. The Peace Center also serves as a workplace and spiritual growth center for developmentally handicapped adults. Over the past four years emerging musicians and those who enjoy a warm cup of Java have used the Peace Center’s “fishbowl” as an area to relax and converse with other members of community.

The ultimate goal of the Peace Center is to bring our divergent community together by building spiritual and cultural bridges in these trying times. We do this by offering gathering space, gracious support, diverse spirituality, cultural exchange and artistic inspiration to the many different groups, partners, and individual people who are in relationship with the Peace Center or live nearby. Help us make a difference for Central Metro Detroit families and individuals together! Give generously!
