We need your help to continue care for a paralyzed German Shepherd Mix pup we took int our care in April. Saundra is one of a litter of three German Shepherds sent to us from the Gallia County, OH shelter, a country shelter in SE Ohio. She and her entire litter became ill with campylobacter, a bacterial disease which mimics parvo, just days after coming into rescue. We have taken MANY puppies with this disease from them, and to provide the best possible treatment, it becomes very costly.

Saundra, in particular, struggled longer than any others, and as a result, is suffering from an autoimmune condition called Guillain-Barre Syndrome, which causes paralysis. To over simplify, she is suffering from spinal inflammation and toxins resulting from the prolonged infection with Campylobacter causing the paralysis. She visits the veterinarian weekly, where we are attempting to get her white blood cell count under control as well as use powerful drugs to attempt to reverse the inflammation.

In humans, the condition is usually temporary, but there is not a lot of precedent for dogs, especially puppies. Still, she is a vibrant, bright and smart girl and we were not willing to give up on her, despite the cost and time commitment. Saundra's foster mom spends hours per day helping her go to the bathroom, carrying her around the house so she is part of the pack, and coming up with new ways to give her the physical therapy she needs to learn to walk-- if she ever will.

While I cannot say exactly how much we will need for her, her current expenses are around $1,500. Louie's Legacy takes expensive medical and behavioral cases WEEKLY. We do not always come to the public asking for donations-- however sometimes it is unavoidable. Any amount you can donate to help us continue providing care and therapy for hr condition is appreciated. Louie's Legacy Animal Rescue is a 502 c 3 non-profit organization and your donations are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law.
