Special Needs Poodle Rescue hasn't added a story.
Cooper is a 5 year old Standard Poodle that's been in foster care
with Special Needs Poodle Rescue, and he's hit a string of bad luck.
2 months ago we nearly lost Cooper when he crashed into and Addison
Crisis. Thankfully quick action and a wonderful and very skilled vet
managed to save him, but the bill wasn't cheap!!!
He was moved to a new foster home, where unfortunately he's hit
bad luck again. Last night while his foster mom was caring for her
horses, Cooper managed to bolt into a horse stall and spooked the
horse, that ended up stepping on his foot, breaking all 4 metatarsal
bones.
While there is a slight chance this could heal with splinting
alone, because of the fact all 4 bones where broken, and some of the
fractures are displaced, surgery is the best option for it to heal
correctly.
We've called dozens of vets, and only been able to find 2
options that could get him in quickly. BluePearl and Granite
Veterinary Specialists. He has a consult with both of these vets
tomorrow morning. The estimates we've been given over the phone
without them seeing Cooper is between $2,200 - $4,000 depending on how
involved the surgery ends up needing to be, how long it takes, and how
well he recovers.
Where Cooper is still a bit underweight from his Addison crisis,
we're going to tread very cautiously, and take all the extra
precautions we can, which of course means it will likely end up being
closer to the higher end, but the last thing we want is for Cooper to
end up back in an Addison crisis.
For now Cooper is comfortable with his foot splinted, and
getting good pain meds to make sure his pain remains well controlled,
but this surgery needs to happen soon! We're hoping to get him into
surgery tomorrow, but because of his Addisons, we may have to wait
until Monday so they can keep him for a day or two and insure he's
stable before he goes back to his foster home.
Help is desperately needed, his bills from his Addison crisis
depleted the emergency fund for Special Needs Poodle Rescue, and they
are scrambling trying to find a way to make this happen!!!!
Donations can also be sent to PayPal.me/SNPR to avoid the fees
charged by Fundrazr. After his consults tomorrow (11/15) morning, and
we know for sure which vet we will be using for his surgery, we will
post an update, and donations will be able to be called in directly to
the clinic. We will also post a written estimate after the consults
when we have a more exact expected amount, it's hard for them to
really give a good estimate until they have actually seen Cooper, and
possibly take more X-rays if needed.
