Distinguished Young Women of America began as America's Jr. Miss back in 1958 in Mobile, Alabama. Since that time, this scholarship program has provided millions of dollars in scholarship to young women all across the country. 

Scholarship monies raised will be awarded to deserving young women through interview, scholastic, talent, fitness and self-expression competitions in September eachyear. 

Distinguished Young Women of Houston County is part of a national scholarship program that promotes and rewards scholarship, leadership and talent in young women.

Cash scholarships are awarded at the local level and millions in college-granted scholarships are available ($1.1 billion nationally). And local winners will advance to the state program in Montgomery, Alabama where they give away more than $42,500 in cash tuition scholarships.

And it’s FREE for eligible young women to participate!

Participants:

• Make new friends from around Houston County area
• Participate in workshops on interviewing, public speaking and more
• Have fun putting on a showcase of participants achievements
• PLUS helps pay for college tuition

It takes generosity from sponsors, alumnae, donors and friends of the program to provide scholarship monies at the local level. Without the support from local community members, businesses, and schools, the program would not be able to support these incredible young women as they pursue higher education and their career dreams.

Friends of DYW: In honor of 60 years of the Distinguished Young Woman Program, Has-Beens, Friends and Family of past participants as well as community members are encouraged to donate $60. 

Any contribution, no matter how small, can make a difference in providing scholarship dollars to the well deserving young women throughout Houston County. All contributions are tax deductible, and stay in Houston County. 

If you are unable to make a financial contribution, please considering donating an in-kind donation. Food, Drinks, Flowers, Decorations, Awards, Beauty Services, Clothing will all be needed for the participants and the program itself. If your organization is able to contribute in any way, please do so.
