Cinema Du Cannes Project and African American Youth Harvest Foundation have joined forces this year to give Austin’s LBJ high school students a chance to make a short film. The final product will be represented at the Cannes Film Festival - Marche Du Film. The students were involved in all aspects of the film production from writing the script to final editing and now have the opportunity to travel to the festival to see the final phase of the project.

Over the past four years the AAYHF through the Krew12 program has been using technology and media as a platform for engaging students beyond the classroom in developing media skills and leadership development. This year partnering with the Cinema Du Cannes Project has allowed these students to continue developing their 21st century skills of collaboration, communication, technology literacy, creative problem solving, and gain professional filmmaking experience from industry practitioners.

Five students have been selected and will travel to the 2014 Cannes Film Festival in France to promote their work and experience first-hand their place in the world film community.

Joe House - Cinematographer

Daria Howard - Script Continuity

Da’Jon Wilson - Director

Genesis Green - Director

Jocelynn Evans - Photographer

The students met twice, sometimes three times, a week during the spring semester and spent over twenty hours on location shoots during the weekend to produce their short film, “The Perfect Stranger”.

Four of the five students will be traveling for the first time by plane and this will be the first international trip for all five students. The trip to Cannes, France will be May14th– May19th. In addition, we are planning a Q+A with these young filmmakers during a local screening of the film trailer, highlights from the shoot and their experience at the Festival before the end of the school year.

THE FILM...

Synopsis: Kevin has a lovely date with Elise as a result of his foray into online dating sites. They hit it off at a local bar enough to set up a second date at his place when his roommate is scheduled to be away on business. Date two is even better than the first, until things go horribly awry…
