Severe drought conditions are threatening the success of our new Land Resilience and Rewilding Project in partnership with Eastern Shoshone’s of the Warrior Society on the Wind River Reservation in Wyoming.

This project is one of the most promising wild horse and land restoration projects in the West and If we act now, we can prevent a crisis before it becomes a 911 emergency.

Love Wild Horses Foundation is honored to partner with the Eastern Shoshone Warrior Society on this Wyoming Rewilding & Land Resilience Project , where we are helping demonstrate a new path forward—one that restores ecosystems, supports Indigenous stewardship, protects communities from wildfire, and allows wild horses to remain on the land where they belong.

But before this model can become fully self-sustaining, drought has created an unexpected challenge.

To help the land recover and give the grasses time to respond to upcoming irrigation efforts, we urgently need to provide temporary supplemental hay for the horses.  At the same time, the Warrior Society is preparing to begin the next critical phase of this project by digging irrigation trenches that will carry life-giving water from the river throughout the property.

This work will help restore healthy vegetation, strengthen the ecosystem, increase natural forage, and create a living greenbelt that can help protect surrounding lands from catastrophic wildfire.

This isn't simply about responding to drought.

It's about helping launch a model that has the potential to restore western landscapes, empower Tribal communities, reduce wildfire fuels, and demonstrate that wild horses are an essential part of healthy, resilient ecosystems.

Here's What We Need to Make It Happen:

🌾 3 Tons of Hay — $450 per ton

🚜 Trench Digging Equipment (2 days) — $375 per day

⛽ Diesel for Equipment (2 days) — $50 per day

💧 2 Large Rigid Water Tanks — $350 each

This project is taking place on Eastern Shoshone ancestral lands , where a dedicated family is leading by example—restoring their sacred homeland while creating a model that could inspire land stewardship efforts across the West.  As a nation, we have an opportunity to stand beside them.
