Help Spartacus Books Survive a Move
Spartacus is moving to a new location on Commercial Drive !
Unfortunately moving has come with a lot of unexpected issues
and costs. Our new location requires repairs such as drywall repair,
painting, and
asbestos abatement and
mould removal to ensure the safety of everyone who spends time
at Spartacus. W
e will also need to get a new awning and renovate the washroom
to make it wheelchair accessible.
All these costs are in addition to paying rent in multiple
locations for two months for the move and renovation.
M
oving to this new space will also come with
a
rent increase. All of this is putting us in a pretty precarious
financial position, and we need the communities help!
We've started this fundraiser to cover these unexpected costs,
which we need to have done to move into our new location. We want to
be able to open our new space by the end of January and continue
providing all the services than an infoshop can!
Spartacus Books is a nonprofit, volunteer-run bookstore,
resource centre, and social space. The store has been run
collectively by volunteers for
almost 50
years. Despite all the stress that is renting in so-called
Vancouver, we want to stick around for many more years and continue
providing access to radical books and zines unavailable at other
book stores, a (pre-covid) event space, and other community
resources like our computers and library!
