Over three yrs ago I got a call about a 19 yr old 17hh TB that was in need of a forever home. She was thin, and could only be ridden as a slow trail horse because she had screws in her leg. I was told that no one would take her in because of this. I knew that I would not be riding her, and there was plenty of grass in the pasture, so I agreed..she had a few people interested in her but I was not positive that she would not be bred as she is registered to the hilt..(so what if she had a bad leg, she could still produce beautiful off spring)..so needless to say, she has lived out her live at Ohana for the last three yrs.. Two yrs ago, my farrier was quite concerned with her stifle issue and her hooves, and suggested that perhaps if he could not fix the issue, it was perhaps time for me to let her go...well, the stifle issue was fixed and the farrier worked on her hooves..fast forward to this month..farrier said she is getting lamantis in all four hooves. At her age, I cannot stall her 24/7, for treatment, not to mention, she will not stall longer then to eat. She is still thin, but I cannot put a lot of weight on her because of the issues with her leg..as she has aged, so has her bones..It is time to let Sissy go home.  I NEVER like to have to make these calls, but I will NOT let her suffer. The last time we had to let a horse go home, it cost us 250.00 for the burial. I have spoke to Doc and he will charge me 125.00 plus the trip which normally is 50.00. This totals 425.00. Does anyone have it in their heart to help us help Sissy go home?
