Family and friends....as most of you may know my daughter, Valerie, is part of the Snowflake family. She was diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis, a rare neurological disorder, at 5 months old. It causes fluctuating weakness of the voluntary muscles of the body and can include a drooping eyelid, blurred or double vision, slurred speech, difficulty chewing and swallowing, weakness in the arms and legs, and difficulty breathing. Symptoms can change from day to day—even hour to hour, sometimes making MG difficult to diagnose. MG affects each person so differently it sometimes is called “the snowflake disease.” Thankfully she is in remission but after attending seminars, networking, and talking to other people with MG, I have found just how rare and life altering the disease can be. I am petitioning to become a board member for the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of Illinois, Inc. and I am asking for your help in showing the foundation the power of networking by donating $1 to see how much we can raise by our next board meeting on December 6th.
