Little Mountain Baseball hasn't added a story.
Wow! Little Mountain Baseball's Challenger Division was selected as the first international team to play in the Little League Challenger Division Exhibition Game at the Little League Baseball World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania on August 23, 2014.
You can read all about the team in this wonderful story in the Vancouver Courier.
Challenger baseball allows children with cognitive or physical disabilities the opportunity to enjoy the full benefits of baseball. For most of the Challenger players this is their first and often their only opportunity to be on a team, wear a uniform and be part of a league in a sports community.
Ensuring and increasing physical activity for these children is
important, as is educating the community that children with special
needs can play organized baseball, just like their peers.
A key component of Challenger Baseball is the volunteer “buddies” who help support players in the game by pushing wheelchairs on the base-path, assisting at bat and in the field, providing protection, mentorship and support while encouraging each player to play to their individual capacity.
The Little League World Series is held annually, attracting
thousands of spectators and is televised on ESPN and TSN in Canada. It
will cost about $43,000 for team members, their families and buddies
to take part in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. We're almost
there in meeting our fundraising goals but need a bit more help to
cover transportation costs from Vancouver to Pennsylvania. That's
where your donations can make a big difference in these Little
Leaguers' lives.
If more money is raised, we will create a photo memory book for each player and volunteer buddy/coach and a video of the whole amazing season – with the road to Williamsport and the BIG game.
Go, Challengers, go!
