We are reaching out to our community to ask for your support in raising £600 to help with the cost of running an upcoming (and much needed) Lone Mother’s Community Day, provided by Radiant Mama here in Totnes.

Last year we received funding for 6 Lone Mother’s Community events, but this year the funding priority went to our Counselling Service and our existing Radiant Mama services ( www.radiantmama.co.uk ).

Aware of the need of Lone Mothers around us, we decided to put on one community day using a small amount of lottery funding available. The response has exceeded our expectations. So far 19 children (inc.babies) and 15 mothers, which is really great, but quite a lot more than we have a budget for. Certainly not enough to cover childcare or food for nearly 50 people.

The shortfall is £600, which we’re turning to you to help us with. If we were to raise more than £600, any surplus would go towards creating another Lone Parent community day in the Autumn. 

The number of bookings and some of the messages we received from the women really affirmed how needed this day is. At the moment, times are hard for many of us, but it can feel worse if you’re an isolated and exhausted lone mother. 

"I'm really quite alone! My dad is ill, my mum is out the picture, my son's dad lives in another country. I have a good social life, but on the days where I'm ill or on my period... It's so hard. I would love to be connected with people who can jump in on these days... That isn't going to cost me an arm and a leg."

"My Mum just died and my father isn’t well. My daughter has been in hospital repeatedly. I feel exhausted and isolated. It’s very hard to form friendships when my daughter is unable to keep up with other children of her age. She gets respiratory issues. She was adopted so there is a history of trauma."
