Hello friends,
We are the volunteer board members governing the State College Area Teener League and the use and upkeep of the ball fields located at the Louis E. Silvi Baseball Complex in Ferguson Township, PA. Each of us are lifelong baseball players, coaches, and fans that support local organizations like Teener Baseball, The Penn State Baseball Club, Centre Sluggers, and Centre Hardballers, and the baseball program at Saint Joseph's Catholic Academy. We are committed to providing a safe and fun baseball experience for enthusiasts all across Centre County. It is our pleasure to put time and energy into the ongoing operation of our facility, but at this time we need your help to keep the Silvi Complex a destination for baseball fans of all ages.
As with any volunteer effort, resourcefulness is the name of the game. A patch here, a quick fix there, and the games go off on time. With the support of our community and the dedicated efforts of those before us, the Teener fields have been host to many a great baseball memory. Unfortunately, the time for short term solutions is up as we look to make a significant change.
We are faced with the fact that the entirety of the fencing at Spectrum Field needs to replaced in order for safe play to continue. We've included a photo gallery with this outreach so that you can see directly the conditions that exists. Users of the field have been able to make due with temporary solutions for the past few years, but that cannot continue. By our estimation, at minimum, the section from the left field foul pole through left center must be replaced immediately before the field can be used safely. Realistically, it makes sense to explore doing the whole thing at once. We want to examine closing the gaps in the existing fence and possibly install a gate along with a plastic guard covering the top bar across the entire length.
After securing a number of quotes, it looks like it will cost around $17K and change to do the entire fence not including the gate or the plastic guard. COVID has shut down the Penn State Baseball Club for the time being, but even with their full use combined with the rest of the schedules, that amount is too great for the Teener organization to absorb at once. And so are we are turning to you, our friends in the community, and asking for your support.
The card service we're using on this site will take a small percentage of each transaction, but otherwise, 100% of your donation will go toward facility improvements. Your donation is tax deductible. Our goal has always been to provide a first class baseball experience, and with your help, we know we can continue that tradition at the Silvi Complex.
