This is our final crowdfunding campaign for the year, and who knows - maybe forever. We at Aeon Dream have run multiple in the past in order to get development going and keep it going for our games. Now we’re asking for help for something a little different:

We’d like to publish a novel. For free.

Well, mostly free. We’d like to write a slightly different, novelized, in-depth version of To the Edge of the Sky,  self-publish for Amazon Kindle, and we intend to give the digital version of the novel away during regular, on-going promotional periods. We want the full story to reach as many readers as possible. That’s why it isn’t being offered as a reward.

On this final campaign, we've offered all of our content at reduced price bundles. This is the cheapest this content will ever be. This campaign is special in that you are able to access all previous exclusive digital rewards that we have ever publicly offered from ALL campaigns. And all previous supporters who had matched the same donation amounts in the past are also eligible for all the rewards in this campaign and will be automatically receiving them.

You are recognized as an Aeon Dream supporter, whether you helped us in 2015 or 2018 and we want to give back to you, while also offering new people one last chance at rewards we don’t know if we will ever offer anywhere else. We’ve kept the rewards all digital to cut down on cost and provide a neat, streamlined way to download your rewards in one package when they’re finally all completed.

We want to show you...

• Defined canon: You can consider this an alternate retelling of the story, separate from the game and the choices you make in the game. Having defined choices allows us to give the best storytelling we can show you, but also offers an opportunity for new events for a fresh, in-depth experience.
• Mature Themes: We know a lot of younger audience plays the game and we're restricted in what we're willing to do with the characters images. The novel will be a re-imagining of the story, free from most of the restrictions we currently have for those who love the story independently of what inspired it. We will be aiming for a more adult audience.
• The deep backstories:  We’ve come up with them, but don’t have time to fully tell them in the game.
• The inner thoughts of all of the characters:  We know them, but you don’t yet. The short stories we’ve released show just a taste of that. With an omniscient view, you can get into their heads.
• New characters:  There are more intriguing characters involved in the storylines, some of which will only ever be mentioned or implied in game. What about the other Phantom cells? What about the past Phantom Alpha team? It’s not something we have time to discuss in the game. But in a novel...
•  The vast post-apocalyptic world:  You only see a fraction of all of the research and writing we’ve done over a year behind the scenes. As much as you’re curious to see more, we want show you it.
• The little moments between characters :  The conversations we joke about behind the scenes, but that players - being Seven - could never fully know.
• The complexities of the storyline, from all sides:  In an action visual novel, just like a movie, we have to keep the pace going and not get bogged down in details. With a novel, we can go into deeper detail about exactly how things happened and actually show you the events you’re only told about in the game.

There’re more than just Seven’s perspective and experiences to see.

Let us draw you into Phantom Alpha’s world as we know it.

Technically, TTEOTS is already a type of novel. Specifically, it is a visual novel. Just like films, video games, TV shows, animation, plays and even music videos and art itself, the visual novel medium is just one way to tell to tell a story. And just like all of those mediums, it has its pros and cons. Just like how there are limits with making a live action film with real people versus an animated one, there are limits to making a visual novel over a novel.

We believe a novel is the freest form of storytelling. Writers use nothing but your words and the reader's mind to weave complex storylines, create emotions and show worlds beyond the reader’s own imagination. There is no limit to what we can show with just our worlds and your imagination.

With the visual novel medium, and games in general, they require a massive amount of money, skill and time to show you specifically what we want you to see. And even then, we can’t show everything - it’d take years to create everything in our minds, and that’s time and money we don’t have.

So what do creators do instead? We cut the story as much as possible to the bare minimum required to tell it. It’s the sacrifice we give up for being able to bring in other artistic elements like visuals and music to tell the story. This is the case with every single medium - but novels are the least restrictive.

They require the least sacrifice of story and can show the most. And that’s why, despite the invention of every single medium since writing was created thousands of years ago, full length novels have persisted. There’s a specific feeling to seeing a world with only your mind that no other medium can quite reproduce.

That’s why we want to show you all of the story that you’re missing with To the Edge of the Sky.

We have to cover the credit card and Paypal fees, and fees Fundrazr itself take out of every dontation, which range from 3-5%. But, we've done a few crowdfunding campaigns by now. We like to keep our goals low to achieve the content adjust the content accordingly. Because of the straightforward nature of novels, the amount we raise will directly correlate to book length/depth. The initial amount just guarantees a book. The amount raised determines how long we can afford to work on it.
