We have established good relationships with several rescues listed . Save A Dog a rescue in Sudbury, Mass operated by Shirley Moore who is a fantastic lady. My go to person when all else fails or if I have a special animal that needs a special home she will find it. Angels Helping Animals Worldwide in Martha's Vineyard operated by Leslie Hurd who started the program. Leslie never gives up on a animal no matter the challenges. How she does it all never ceases to amaze me. Shultz's Guest House in Dedham Mass. One of the most beautiful rescues I have ever seen and managed by Jill Greblick who has always been caring and kind through a multitude of challenges. Spotty Dog Rescue in Connecticut operated by Dawn De Santis a jewel who all it takes is a phone call and if she has the space they are out on the next plane. It is amazing the size dog she and I can fit in a Sherpa bag. Humane Society of New York located in Manhattan. Susan Defeo who will wait for our animals to be delivered from JFK and can always find room for one more. Noah's Ark in Illinois. Deena Gates who is always willing to give us a hand and a kennel when we are in a bind and she has the space. The Potter's League Pearl Gonzales who has been a great help.
The rescues listed above are the ones we deal with most often but others have helped us also such as. Kym Cyrs Martha's Vineyard Helping Homeless Animals, rescue in Denver, and California. We hope to establish a relationship with Pet Search operated by Sherry Knight in Pennsylvania . If we can get them there she will take them. We also send animals to adopters in various parts of the states.
I would be remiss if I did not thank another group who without their help getting the animals ready to go would be much harder.. Let me thank our local volunteers too many to name who when we have a large transport step up to the plate and meet at the shelter and wash, walk, set up, crates, go to the airport to help get these animals out.
The other group are the individuals who pick up at the destination airport, Through last minute travelers, airline flight cancellations, delays, mistakes, late arrivals, very very late arrivals, customs, wind, snow, rain these individuals are always there. So puppy and kitty kisses to the following; Lynda Mazzocca, Diane Broderick, Robert Triba, Stephanie Oaks, Joshua Vernon. I am sorry if I missed anyone you all play a important part in this program.
Our Pets With Wings program is funded strictly by donations. We have been blessed that we have had a major donor whose donation sponsored at least 150 dogs over the last two years. The public has always stepped up to the plate to donate. We are now met with a crisis we are out of money to pay for our transports. There are travelers, rescues but no funds to sponsor the animals. The cost of transports is anywhere between $125 and $325 per animal depending on the size of the animal and whether it is under the seat or under the plane. That price includes health cert and rabies if required. We are set with crates and are able to get them returned so that is no longer an expense.
