Forgotten Felines of Maine helps the feral, stray, homeless and abandoned cats in our neighborhoods.  While we do alot of TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return) we do have permanent residents in our care...feral and sometimes friendly cats who have no other place to call home. We have Pepper, the feral kitty whose colony was trapped and anihilated when neighbors complained that 'someone' was feeding the cats in the trailer park;  Dewey, the blind feral who would not stand a chance in the Maine woods;  Bambi, the once feral cat who lost her home in a fire; Charlie, the feral kitty once fed by an elderly lady no longer physically able to do so;  Lavendar, who rescued from a hoarder suffers from rodent ulcer and needs medication to keep her face from being eaten away by parasites; and Tom Tom, who at age 17 was just unwanted and dropped off at our vet to be killed. There are many, many more all with the same sad stories and no where to live....38 at last count.  So they live in our two-story barn with a 10'x40' outdoor enclosure which is nice in warm weather.

But this is Maine and winters are cold and these cats not only need a warm, dry place to curl up during the long cold days of winter, they deserve it. In 2011 we had a Rinnai propane heater installed to help keep the kitties warm.  Last year we spent almost $2,568 to keep the kitties warm from November - April. Being a very small organization we need help this year to keep these cats warm and safe again.  With one major storm already on November 2nd we need to start the heat now, 2 weeks earlier than normal.  We are looking at a $3,000 propane bill this year.

Look at your kitties....can you imagine them alone and suffering the cold Maine winters outdoors? I know I could not imagine that life for my own cats and I am certainly glad the 38 cats in the barn don't have to suffer these winters either thanks to you and your contribution. Thank you for caring enough to make a difference in the lives of these cats....they will be warm this winter....just like all of us should be.  xo
