Help fund deuteragonist press’ first year of publishing

deuteragonist press is a chapbook press based in Victoria, B.C., on the lands of the Lekwungen-speaking peoples. We want to make space for emerging Canadian authors, with an aim to focus on writers living in British Columbia. Our organization is getting ready to print our first round of chapbooks this fall, and we cannot wait to share the wonderful words that are brewing. 

As an emerging press with no grant funding (most grants don’t support start up costs and only support literary projects that have already been publishing for a year), we’ve covered 100% of our own startup costs. Because we’re basing our printing on pre-orders, the main costs we need to focus on are operational costs.

Your donation will make a real difference in allowing us to recoup personal funds invested in the press and to allow the sales of our first chapbooks go to saving up for the next round of printing (instead of also covering operational costs), which further allows us to be in a better financial position for printing more chapbooks down the line.

A little run down of what your donation could help us achieve:

$650 Recouping funds already invested in operational costs (website, domain, registering our non-profit, PO Box, Adobe subscription, graphic design for logo(in-progress))

$1350 Recoup funds already invested AND cover our operational expenses until Summer 2027 

Anything above $1350 will complete all of the above financial goals, PLUS help us cover costs of our printing our first chapbooks so we can be even better set up for financial success in our first year— allowing us to print issues from a fund of money set aside for printing instead of fronting costs personally.

We are so excited to share this project with you and hopefully provide so much to the Canadian literary community through giving authors (especially emerging authors) a home to publish their work and through hosting events locally in Victoria.
