Arima was saved from the clutches of a meat buyer at an auction 4 years ago.
We can only guess what she went through when her human abandoned her there.
But now she has severe uveitis and her eyes have become very painful. There are two choices: put her to sleep or have surgery accomplished to remove those eyes.
She has been blind for some time so as far as she is concerned, all that will change is that she will be out of pain.
Once this is done, she will be coming to her new, forever home at Twin Heart Animal Sanctuary.
But first, we have much to do... Her surgery will be about $3,000 (barring complications), the new shed that needs to be built for her (safe and comfortable) will be $5,000, Her transportation costs (a good, savvy transporter) to bring her the 4-5 hours home, will be about $1000, the safe panel fences, about $1500, and then there is the veterinary aftercare as she heals (not sure how much-- will depend on how she does).
It's a lot of money for one blind horse. But she is healthy otherwise and she deserves this chance. Heaven knows that humans have already failed her.
Imagine giving someone your lifelong service only to be dumped at the nearest auction once you were no longer useful.
The fear that these animals go through is completely unacceptable.
Come on, humans! We can do better than this!
