On May 6th Edmonton’s 10th Queer Youth Prom will welcome up to 500 teens to a safe and supportive youth dance and social event. This annual dance for LGBTQ teens and their allies is supported by dozens of volunteers and sponsored by The Pride Centre of Edmonton. Attendees can connect with peers and with role models, learn about supporting agencies, take part in activities and a pose in a photo booth. Food, refreshements and even hairstyling are provided. Prom is always free of charge for attendees.
To celebrate Prom's 10th anniversary, we are asking the community to help us fund Prom through this campaign. We know that Prom has tremendous support and countless allies. Prom’s budget is close to $8,000 – this includes the venue, DJ, food, marketing, fencing for an outdoor lounge area, insurance and a volunteer appreciation and feedback event. This comes to approx $20 per youth. We appreciate the community’s tireless support of Prom and your help in spreading the word about this campaign.
Tax receipts will be issued by The Pride Centre for donations over $20. The Perks offer donations for suggestions and share feedback from last year’s attendees. Any donation is gratefully accepted. Please feel free to leave a note of support and we will share all notes with the teens.
