Our Mission
More than ever before, our planet needs trees – and us to take care of them. We are a Finnish impact-driven environmental startup focusing fully to do good for the planet. Our treemaster Mika Vanhanen has long time experience on working with tree planters around the world. His Environment Online (ENO) network of 10 000 schools in over 120 countries has planted over 30 million trees in 15 years. But they have faced a major problem: how to get planting more sustainable and beneficial for both to the planet and tree planters, especially in less developed countries? To solve the problem, we have created TreebuddyEarth, the ultimate tree planting and caring service. In Treebuddy you have every single treebuddy in a map with a photo, and you will see them growing over the years!
Where we are now
We start with a pilot in the Philippines. Bayug Island is surrounded by river and sea. About 10 years ago, tropical storm Sendong wiped out nearly all the buildings and mangroves on the island. We need to plant many mangroves to protect the island, decline erosion and get more fish. At the same time, this all helps to tackle climate change.
Our model for Change
This project will set an example how schools with their local communities will plant trees and care for them with local wisdom, and get supported to their tree care in the future. Locals receive income every time they make a status update of a tree with a new photo (after 1 year, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 years) - encouraging locals for long term treecare. This gives locals a great incentive to keep the trees, since trees will be important both ecologically and economically.
Where we need your contribution
In this project, a new tree nursery will be established and 6 000 - 10 000 mangroves will be planted. All the trees will be marked to our global treemap - and taken care for them in the coming decades. The project creates a model where schools with their communities around the world will plant and take care for trees, help nature and get income to improve their schools.
