City of Port St Lucie hasn't added a story.
Living Well in PSL needs your support to build the first of a network of outdoor family fitness zones throughout Port St Lucie. Over ten years have passed since Hurricanes Frances and Jeanne hit the City of Port St Lucie and in the decade since, we have worked tirelessly to build a safer, healthier, stronger place to live and raise families.
We need your support to build a Living Well in PSL Family Fitness Zone at Jessica Clinton Park.
Hopefully, this will be the first of many Family Fitness Zones networked throughout the city.
Unfortunately fitness zones don't grow on trees and after more than a year of planning and design; we need our friends, family, partner organizations and future Living Well in PSL Family Fitness Zone users to step up and show that we all want free family fitness zones in our city.
The best way for you to support the health of Port St Lucie and the future of Living Well in PSL, is to contribute towards the 1st of what we hope will be many Family Fitness Zones throughout the community.
JOIN THE TEAM AND HELP LIVING WELL IN PSL GET MOVING
Each contribution is a donation that will go directly to the purchasing of materials for this project. $30,000 will cover the cost of the outdoor exercise equipment that will be made available to this community free of charge. Additional funds will be needed for the full installation and surfacing of the park.
If you would like a specific gift, please click that box while making your donation. We will send you an email towards the end of the campaign informing you where to pick up your gift or dedication.

About this project.
Due to the socio-economic status, many families do not have access to fitness equipment at local private fitness clubs or centers. Through the "Living Well in PSL Family Fitness Zone" initiative we would like to install outdoor fitness stations that would allow ALL community members open public access to work out. The fitness equipment would allow adults, seniors, children, and families an opportunity to work out on their own or together.
The addition of this equipment would add another dimension of activity to the park and increased park usage has proven to deter vandalism, violence, and the decay of the park property. The installation of this equipment will also help with the City's solution of reducing obesity in children and adults in the community.
The Living Well in PSL Family Fitness Zone will be the first of its' kind in our community and hopefully the first of many Family Fitness Zones networked throughout the City. We believe that every individual can and should enjoy the health benefits of a more active lifestyle.
Our Living Well in PSL vision is for every resident to have access to a cost-free exercise space within walking distance of their homes. One's lack of financial resources should not be a roadblock to personal health and wellness. The use of this equipment will be free and open to anyone whenever they want to use it.
We want to demonstrate our commitment and effort in helping make a positive change for the best interest of ALL community members.
How will this impact your community?
Socio-economic status should not prohibit any children, families or community members from having access to resources that allow for personal fitness and wellness. Imagine a community where all those that want to be fit can be! This project will provide open public access to fitness stations that can accommodate all ages and abilities.
The fitness equipment will add another activity to enhance the quality of the total park experience. These fitness stations will allow for increased access to opportunities for community members to increase their physical activity and improve upon their overall quality of health and well being. In addition, increased usage and additional activity in the park will help to increase visibility and reduce vandalism and inappropriate behaviors in the park.
WHY FAMILY FITNESS ZONES?
HERE'S THE PROBLEM
Unhealthy Communities - Obesity is one of the greatest health threats in the US. More than one-third of adults and 17% of children are obese (BMI of 30.0 or higher). The decades-long decline in physical activity throughout the U.S. has resulted in unprecedented increases in obesity-related healthcare costs. In 1990, not a single U.S. state had an obesity rate above 15%. In 2014 no state had an obesity rate below 20%. By state obesity prevalence ranged from 21.3% in Colorado to 35.1% in Mississippi and West Virginia. 43 states have obesity rates of at least 25%; Florida is 26.4%.
High Costs - In 2008, medical costs associated with obesity were estimated at $147 billion. If obesity rates continue to rise $344 billion will be spent on obesity-related healthcare costs in 2018.
Underutilized Space - Underutilized urban space is a risk to public health that invites crime, diminishes real estate values of surrounding properties and discourages community progress and development.
